    Elaine Brockhouse College Tour to Europe Scrapbooks (2) - maiden voyages of the American Export Lines SS Independence (departing June 9) and returning SS Constitution (arriving Aug. 3)
    . Two of a series of scrapbooks kept by Elaine Brockhouse, 91-year-old niece of William D. Pawley, who initiated the formation of the famous American volunteer group of airmen known as the Flying Tigers who supported China in World War II from an aircraft manufacturing and supply base he organized in India. He was a confidant of Presidents Truman and Eisenhower and U.S. ambassador to Peru and Brazil after World War II.
    The scrapbooks are 9 X 12 in. and ship weight will be 7 lbs.
    They include many menus, the Boyte-Brown tour agency brochure with itinerary; a letter to Elaine from the tour agency stating that Ambassador Pawley had intervened to ensure that her berth was in the first class section; a bon voyage radiogram from Edna Pawley; 5 ship menus representing both ships;  a large postcard of the SS Constitution; a photo of Elaine with ship officers and another with ship guests printed "maiden voyage" beneath; shipboard snapshots; an issue of the ship newspaper; ship stationery example; passenger list; docking snapshots; many tourism snapshots in various European cities; complete issue of The Daily American newspaper from July 9, 1951; various hotel brochures and menus; 6
    foreign banknotes including five franc bill from Switzerland dated 1947.
