    1947-48 Southern Methodist University Scrapbook - freshman
    Elaine (Cowman) Brockhouse, Pinecrest FL
    . One of a series of scrapbooks kept by Elaine Brockhouse, 91-year-old niece of William D. Pawley, who initiated the formation of the famous American volunteer group of airmen known as the Flying Tigers who supported China in World War II from an aircraft manufacturing and supply base he organized in India. He was a confidant of Presidents Truman and Eisenhower and U.S. ambassador to Peru and Brazil after World War II.
    The scrapbook is 9 X 12 in. and thick. Elaine spent a year at SMU before transferring to Wellesley. One highlight of this book is a flyer to promote "The Spirit of S.M.U." - an original program presented  by the Student Council that was written AND DIRECTED BY AARON SPELLING of TV industry fame. He is also credited with being one of three narrators of "Thoughts of Southern Methodist University on the same program.  Spelling was an SMU cheerleader.
    The scrapbook includes a Pigskin Preview homecoming program, 6 Guf Oil theatre programs, a Texas State Fair "Annie Get Your Gun" program, a Melba Theatre program for "Harevy with Joe E. Brown, 1947 and 1948 Ice Capades programs, a Wee St. Andrews miniature golf scorecard, a 1948 Cotton Bowl ticket stub, fashion show at the S&S Tea Room, S.M.U. Campus newspaper dated 1/7/48, Dallas Symphony programs, homecoming program.
