What is AF/EXP chip for Nikon 1 for?
Three main functions of the chip:
- focus assistant, help you to adjust focus easily
- automatic exposure in A mode

zoom feature, you can
zoom image on your screen by camera button like with Nikon lens
To assemble chips and gluing chips to adapters we use
professional adhesives
from Parfix.
Manual.
Insert an adapter
into the camera and
switch camera on
. For the first 2 seconds you may see message "
Check the lens
" on camera screen,
it is normal
, the camera needs
time to initialize the chip.
For correct exposure time calculation, set the camera
mode A and minimum aperture F1.4
. Regardless of the aperture on your lens for correct calculation of exposure you have to set
F1.4
on the camera.
After chip initialization you will see
focus assistant on the screen
of your camera,  in the upper right corner.
Focus assistant
is a
focus indicator
for the object in
the center focus area
(white frame on the screen) and can have
4 stages
:
Rotate the lens
focus ring until the subject is in focus.
Try once
and you'll see
how easy to get into focus
with the assistant.
In case of any errors corresponding lens on camera screen:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Check the chip contacts, clean them if necessary.
3. After cleaning the contacts, insert the adapter with the chip back into the camera and turn camera on. After a few seconds the chip should work in normal mode and you will see the focus assistant.
