Description
Photo Album / Scrapbook containing Photos and Ephemera related to various members of the COUCH FAMILY, primarily Michael Couch, his wife Jean Couch, and his sister Susan Couch. Hardcover photo album, lacking the front cover, 11.5x14 inches, inner pages bound together with two metal bolts..Apparently the album was put together by Roberta Couch, the mother of Michael and Susan Couch. The first page is a handwritten transcript of the song from Fiddler on the Roof titled Sunrise, Sunset, a song that reminiscences on how quickly your little boy and girl grow up and get older while you grow old.
Items include the names of Susan Couch, Michael Couch, Jean Couch, Douglas Couch, and Roberta Couch. There are lots of cards from the children Susan and Michael to their parents. The majority of the photos are of the wedding of Michael and Jean Couch and their wedding reception.
Items in the album include:
A clipped newspaper article announcing the birth of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Couch on March 10, 1951 at the Palo Alto Hospital.
24 pages with handmade cards by Michael and Susan Couch made when they were kids, clearly the 1950s. The cards were made for their Mommy and Daddy (Douglas Couch and Roberta Couch).
A 1959 Cubberley Senior High School, Palo Alto, Commencement Announcement card listing all the graduates. One of the listed graduates is Michael Couch.
A 1969 Palo Alto Times newspaper article listing the students graduating from Gunn High School, Palo Alto. One of the listed graduates is Susan Couch.
A couple telegrams from Mike Couch to Roberta Couch, his mother, wishing her happiness.
6 professional wedding photos, each mounted on 6x9 inch white cardstock, each signed by the photographer. All the people in the photos are named.
13 snapshots of Michael and Jean's wedding and reception, all the people in the photos are named.
A couple postcards from their Honeymoon.
A 1975 baby announcement for Whitney Ann Couch, and a 1973 baby photo of Matt Couch. Obviously the next Couch generation courtesy of Mike and Jean Couch.
And a few other items.
Condition: The album is in POOR condition, the front cover is lacking, the rear cover and spine are worn with the vinyl peeling away from the edges, but the inner sheets are still held in place with the two bolt binding. The photos and pasted in items are all in GOOD condition, still bright and clean.
From what I can gather, Douglas Couch was a major property owner and developer in Palo Alto and the San Francisco Peninsula. What this meant to his wife, Jean, his children Susan and Michael, and his grandchildren, Matt and Whitney, you get to research for yourself.
