Whiting Davis Chainmail Coin Purse and Unmarked Chainmail Cigarette Case

Description

The Whiting Davis coin purse is small and unlined, measuring about 6.5 inches from the top of the chain to the bottom of the bag.  It is marked with the Whiting David Co Mesh Bag mark and "Made in USA".  Classic deco design.  The tiny rings are  present but there are small openings at the point where the mesh meets the hinges. Some age darkning.  c 1930.  The companion piece is a chainmail mesh purse accessory, probably a cigarette case.   About 6.5 inches long and 3 3/4 inches across it is lined with an offwhite cotton.  It opens and closes by a strong steel band spring.  Pressure at the edges of the band spring it open, it closes by releasing the pressure.  A strong mechanism.  The liner is attached to the spring opener by a strip of heavy cloth, linen or grosgrain, glued to the spring.  It has come loose at  one corner but could easily be reattached.  Cigarette case c 1950s.
